Stefan Grünendahl, Fermilab
['State of the Union', January 1998]
Welcome, weary WWW-Wanderer, to my
humble home page!
I'm a particle physicist working in the
D0 experiment
at Fermilab, near Chicago, Illinois.

VLPC's :
what's that? A
brief tour of the D0 fibre tracker VLPC effort. Contrived originally as
poster
presentation for the URA visit to Fermilab, in the spring of 1996, and
used subsequently at the Fermilab DOE Review and at the 11th p-bar-p Workshop,
in Albano Terme (Padova), Italy, both also in 1996. (The poster got to go to
Italy, not me.)
-
VLPC's :
First Study of a Large Sample of Visible Light Photon Counters
A writeup (html-ized) of my presentation on VLPC characterization for
the D0 Upgrade
Cosmic Ray Test, given at Como, Italy, in the Fall of 1994.
(in case you prefer:
[same thing, but in postscript] )
-
The D0 Level 1 SciFi Trigger
The slides of my presentation on a fast track trigger implemented with
FPGA's for
the D0 Upgrade, given at Como, Italy, in the Fall of 1998. This
page also contains a link to download the powerpoint file.

Just discovered! Fresh from the VAX/VMS crypt:
Prehistoric documents on fiber ribbon making and
mounting.
-
Instruction
Manual (version 1.1, postscript, 48 KB)
for the operation of R2D1, the single
cassette VLPC cryostat.
Sadly, the manual did not prevent a cassette
from being destroyed by flooding, when the cryostat toured the NWA test beam area
during the summer of 1997...
The overall VLPC cassette/cryostat loss statistics:
Fire:
3
Water:
11
(and postdocs lead by a wide margin over grad students...)

A note on sorting 40,000 axial fibers from layers into trigger wedges without using patch panels, mixer boxes,
or glue guns.
