These pages describe the design of the D0 Run2b silicon
detector. This detector was cancelled by the Fermilab director in
September of 2003. A less ambitious "Layer 0" detector is being
constructed which will fit inside the existing Run2a structure. Please go to
the Layer 0 link for information about this detector. The existing
Run2b links on this page are being retained for future reference.
Information about the silicon detector built for Run2a,
and more specific information about the experiment in general can be found
at the pages:

A computer simulation depicts the
decay of a Higgs boson, which is believed to give mass to elementary
particles, into four muons. The search for the Higgs boson is one of
the main motivations for the construction of a new silicon detector for
the DØ experiment at Fermilab.

| High energy physics research is performed to
understand the nature of matter at the most fundamental level and to explore the
evolution and fate of the universe through fundamental interactions of energy,
matter, time and space. The high energy physics experiment for which the
detector described here is being built is conducted at the world's highest
energy particle accelerator, the Tevatron proton- antiproton collider at
Fermilab. |
