Fiber Tracker Meeting Minutes
August 19, 2003 - 10am, Farside
- CFT Electronics Status : Borcherding
- Firmware changes - 53MHz readout option
- involves changes to:
- AFE Hardware & Clockgen
- SEQ Hardware/jumpers & firmware
- VTM hardware
- now standard at Phase 5 for 53MHz
- testing groups of 8 boards at CTS
- multiple problems
- sets of AF (almost full) value to 0 - makes clock be delayed by <1ms
- CTS rate tied to Global rate - since crate 25 (L2) is now included in every run,
running CTS adds deadtime to Global, etc.
- yesterday couldn't do file copies on CTS computer
- work on Odd Double peaks
- example plot
- it is systematically the "upper four" channels, and the last ones read out are worst
- see at CTS at 53MHz readout
- do not see at P5 with 264/132
- looked at unused channels on platform
- unbonded >> NO double peaks = effected by SVX internals only
- bonded but not used >> double peaks = effected by AFE board / MCM
- channel 0 >> NO double peaks = effected by internal MCM only
- these facts point to the phenomenon coming from before the SIFT chip
- AFE board swap / fix
- Calibration/data quality : Warchol
- talk slides
- no problems with FEBs recently
- instabilities in pedestal position; example: 3A5, SVX7, board 545
- only solution is to do calibration run
- think the cause is changes (instabilities?) in VREF
- highlights defficiencies in monitoring proceedure (just have to visually scan hit maps)
- slides 7, 10 and 16 show example plots of pedestal movement
- dead channels
- examples of definition of "dead channel"
- example "dead VLPC" = two chunks of four dead channels; or four chunks of two dead channels
- table of dead channels on slide 17
- back in May: 275 total, 64 of which are VLPCs
- as of August 15: 311 total, 72 of which are VLPCs
- two VLPCs actually "recovered" May to August - faulty connection on cold synapse end?
- also have 7 or 8 "latched" VLPCs (show large RMS), most are still from last
winter's warmup
- CFT data quality verification : Friedman
- talk slides
- Andrew: How stable is the code? only crashes because of SAM file delivery failure
- Are there plans to CVS the code? No, but it should be! Mike?
- Emphasize that should look at _all_ the plots before deciding on what cuts / limits to pick
- Fred: will organize a group of people to look at Mike's plots and make choices
- Drew: suggest adding entries in the database for the CPS and FPS. Can we also distinguish
between axial and stereo CFT?
- link to documentation
of the code changes made
- link to notes similar
to this presentation
- locations of accumulated data from this study are
here and in the
run quality database
- Status and plans for shutdown : Borcherding
- Master schedule table for AFE modifications
- access status key: O=open, M=movement?, R=restricted, B=beam
- will try to have 16 boards modified per day
- George: concerned about bayonnet damage; Fred: plan to do the testing before putting
the bayonnet back in.
- caveat: have not talked to Jon Anderson about the schedule for the technicians
- table of LVPS modifications
- want to add ability to do quick-swaps and remote power reset
- also need to separate remote power on/off controls for each sequencer DFEA crate LVPS
- tables (page 1,
page 2) of 53MHz running
- Paul: firmware will have to be changed when boards are modified, but new firmware will
still run at 40 until this 53MHz test phase
- deadline for getting 53MHz mode working is October 17
- Jadzia: there is a bad slot in one of sequencers. Will that be fixed? - no plans to
- open access ends October 26
- aiming for first good beam on November 17
- will not re-start scheduling owl shifts until October 20; don't expect to have to actually
be there until November 10
- need to find out if other systems are going to need our stuff functional during the
modification period
- Paul: do we want LED runs? Jadzia: would like to do one before the modifications
start if possible
- Other Business
- Stefan: should schedule a "new expert" review tutorial before the shutdown.
- George: is the cryo and refrigeration system good to go for another year or two
(till next shutdown)? - check with Russ
- Stefan: what about FPD trigger readout - are they going to be modifying it? It might
interfere with CTT debugging. - need to check
