Minutes: Interface Module Meeting 5/13/99 ----------------------------------------- Att: Foglesong, Green, Johnson, Lipton, Matulik, Reay, Utes, Sidwell. via telephone: Sobering, Stanton, Jensen, McDavitt Module Front Panel: Scott & Noel described the front panel scheme, which has daughter cards to hold the mini-coax connectors. Johnson raised the question of detents- the connectors have none, and the requirement (at least in Run I) was that connectors be able to withstand a 10 lb pull. Noel promised to look in securing the cables. Connector source is Johnson Components. The issue of color coding came up- only pairs can be color coded. We will have to mark clock and clock-bar carefully. J1 backplane- design not ready yet, 5/20. Termination schemes: Utes Mike has tried a variety of termination schemes and showed scope pictures (soon to appear on web page). One change proposed from Zverev's diagram (see web page) on the control lines, is to use 82 ohm pulldown, not pull up. The logic zero level is marginal in the latter case (only 0.84V). We need however to look at a fully populated board. For Rev 3, the proposal is to use the classic termination of 82 ohms to ground on both sequencer and IM board side- this requires however doubling up transceivers to deliver adequate power. Signal quality is very good, and cross talk <0.4V, compared to 0.8v using schottky (1N5711) diode termination. 3M cable: J Green- the issue is the connection of the shield to ground. 3M will test use of silver epoxy under the Fujipoly. Johnny is waiting for feedback from 3M. Crate & module geographical addressing: raised by Scott. Decided on a) user selected crate address; b) hard-wired slot address (thus NOT configured on the interface module). Each crate would be an RT (remote terminal)- we will need four dual VME cards to address the system. Schedules and expenditure profile: management needs the spending profile for this year and next. Since surface mount components have long lead times, we should get vendor bids as soon as the schematic is ready (July hopefully). Parts should be ordered as soon as the design is stable and has been approved. Lipton requested spending estimates by next week.
