Hi John, Since I have been looking at these spreadsheets for so long, it struck me that for the uninitiated it may be useful to have a short glossary of the column headings in the spreadsheet that was sent to the "scrubbers". WBS ==== The Work Breakdown Structure. Note that "higher" level WBS values are roll ups of lower (i.e. more WBS level detail) WBS numbers. Usually WBS level 4 is indicted by a dotted line, and WBS level 5 by a thin dashed line to guide the eye. The reviewees will be combinations of subsystem managers responsible at WBS level two and three (depending on the system), plus any other experts they may need to answer ETC questions. DESCRIPTION =========== Description of that WBS item. COST EST ======== This is the latest value of the cost estimate in ~then year dollars. Note this is the total cost estimate, NOT the funding. This is what it will cost to build D0 regardless of funding source. While this is not what is being reviewed here, it is provided to guide the reviewer. YTD OBLIG ======== These are the D0 obligations made against the WBS's in FY00 (i.e. starting Oct '99) up to the end on January 2000. Note that this means that monies sent to collaborators in the form of PO's against MOU's are considered fully obligated. These are entered as soon as the requisition enters our system for the requisition amount, and adjusted later should the PO amount vary. This item is also not being reviewed by the committee, but is used by management to track current obligations. PRIOR YRS OBLIG ============== These are the same as above, but for FY99 and earlier. Note that these may change if there are adjustments to PO's that appear later (e.g. shipping etc). This item is not being reviewed by the committee. CONTRIB (NON-DoE) ================ These are non-DOE contributions (consisting of contributions from foreign collaborators, and additional NSF MRI funding). The contributions listed are the ones that have been fully realized. There are additional contributions that have not been obligated that we expect to realize in FY00 and FY01 (of about $385k). The collaborator contributions are treated as fully obligated against the WBS, i.e. they do not appear in the "project balance". You can think of this as the collaborator taking full fiscal responsibility to deliver the item at the cost estimate price. PROJECT BALANCE ================ THIS IS THE ITEM BEING REVIEWED. This is equivalent to the Estimate to Complete (ETC) as of the end of January 2000. This corresponds to the amount that still needs to be obligated to complete the project regardless of funding source. Note that since this corresponds to the en of Jan, it is a snapshot. The actual ETC today is of course lower. Mike
